Whether painting from her home in Goose Rocks in southern Maine or experimenting in her new New York studio, Bethany Harper Williams always pushes boundaries and tries new things.

"I don't like to paint the obvious. I like the viewer to look and find new things like the shapes of colors, textures, playful shapes, and scribbles. The vast areas of sky, beach, or water give me room to play," says Williams. "When looked at up close, all these interesting and unexpected shapes, subtle textures, and colors are found. Yet it is a sky, beach, or water from a distance."
Bethany needs the mountains and the ocean just like she needs to paint. This power and energy in nature draw her to paint it continually. "I go into my zone when I am painting. The hours pass by, and I am absorbed. It is the same connection as when surrounded by mountains or looking out to the water. I am at peace," says Williams.
