Daniel Corey is back in Kennebunk, and we love how he represents Maine and the simple beauty that surrounds this area. Whether it is sunsets and flowers or just lovely little objects that hold summer memories,  Corey has captured the little moments full of memories.

Below, you will find a sampling of notes and ideas that came directly from Corey about a few pieces in his solo summer show at Maine Art Hill on 5 Chase Hill Rd in Kennebunk, Maine.

Summer Jeep and Summer Bug are as inspired by color harmony and abstract design as they are about how certain vehicles take on their true roles during certain seasons. These two cars shine in the summer months.”

“All the Flowers in Maine is from a farm local to me. One of the unique things they offer is allowing you to cut the wildflowers. Luckily, I found the scene before there was much cutting.”

“I am always trying to capture Coastal Light, but recently, I wanted to add capturing the sea air.  I believe this painting does both.”

Coneflower is the subtle colors and gestures in coneflowers, the dark backdrop added to the drama!”

Flower Patch has fifty variations of green and is a favorite. It has soft, overcast light that I rarely get to paint.”

Local Color has been on my mind for close to a decade. It is finally out and on a canvas. The variety of green with the intense blue skeleton of the bike almost reads as a roadmap, a roadmap with rust.”

Sunflower Bouquets. This painting has a story. When my wife and I were married a few years ago, we had these flowers as our centerpieces. When the wedding was over, I couldn’t resist. I packed all these flowers, in their water-filled jars, into my tiny car and brought them about an hour’s drive home. The entire trip was so loud, with the glasses vibrating off each other. The next day, I dumped all the flowers on a table and painted this painting to life. Not a drop of water was spilled during that drive.”

Sunset Harmony is trying to capture light. It is always the goal which inspired this painting.”
