Craig Mooney | Seaport | Oil | 44" X 44" | $8500
Artist Craig Mooney very rarely paints from a photograph. Instead, each canvas blends many beloved places and scenes he has "collected" in his memory over the years.
“I try to capture a ‘moment in time’ which evolves into works more about symbolism. The sea and land, the sailboats in the distance, these are more metaphors for a more in-depth dialogue with the subject,” explains Mooney. “This way, the paintings can be entered by anyone.”
“They are places only I have been. They are the epitome of New England’s perfection. They are a piece and a part of each beach, mountain, or ocean I have visited. It is where I am at peace, but in the end, it is a reminder of wherever you find happiness,” says artist Craig Mooney.
All the places Mooney has called home have inspired him: his native New York, the mountains and farms near his studio in Stowe, Vermont, and the beaches of Maine and Massachusetts. In all his work, he always seeks a sense of atmosphere.

Mooney’s new works include a variety of newer themes as well as older ones. The romantic themes of weather and storms are familiar to the 18th—and 19th-century seascape painters who have always influenced his work, but there is more.
