In our life there is a single color, as on an artist’s palette, which provides the meaning of life and art. It is the color of love.” – Marc Chagall.
When artist Claire Bigbee paints, she is full of love, especially for the landscapes she calls home. She chooses her palette with courage and insight into bringing new depths and tones to what Mother Nature has created.
Claire Bigbee | The Bell & Out Buildings | Oil | 24" X 36" | $3740
As Bigbee sits in front of a landscape, she profoundly appreciates what she sees. However, she also sees a bit deeper, a bit clearer, just a bit more than many of us.
"Chagall was one of the greatest colorists ever to have lived," explains Bigbee. "He developed a varied palette of bright, radiant, and shimmering colors. The artist's color sensitivity is dominated by his pleasure in painting and the hegemony of colors."
Bigbee has that same sensitivity.
Claire Bigbee | Mousam River Between Parsons and Kennebunk Beach | Oil | 15" X 30" | $2150
"Chagall expressed color using the metaphor of love, and I find his work nourishes my desire to paint with my intuition and feelings," shares Bigbee. "He used shapes and color to suggest movement, planes, and rhythms."
Again, Bigbee embraces these qualities.
Claire Bigbee | The Footbridge Dory | Oil | 10" X 20" | $1250
