Karen Bruson and Daniel Corey

May 25 - June 19

“If light is the spiritual quality of painting, color is surely its heart and passion.” Robert Reynolds.

Maine Art Hill opens two shows on Saturday, May 25, at 10 AM. Artists Karen Bruson and Daniel Corey are featured in two separate shows under one roof at 5 Chase Hill Road in Kennebunk. These shows run for almost a month and end on June 19. If in town, please consider the Artists’ Reception on Saturday, May 25, from 5-7 PM at 5 Chase Hill Road, Kennebunk. All are welcome.

“As we introduce the summer show season at Maine Art Hill, we can’t help but feel the energy and excitement,” says gallery owner John Spain. These two artists complement each other perfectly, making this a true celebration of color and light.

The first artist is Karen Bruson. Although she has been with Maine Art Hill for just a few years, she has made an impression on many clients and visitors. Her artwork comes from her visual connection with common, everyday objects and places.

“I am inspired by the way light falls upon a subject, casting rich dark shadows, and I aspire to simplify the nuances within those darks,” says Bruson. “Starting with a luminous, warm ground, I seek to create a vibration of color by using compliments and deliberately leaving some areas untouched. Painting is a life-long journey of observations and a representational translation of my surroundings.”

After receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts, she spent several years as an illustrator and graphic designer for New Hampshire Magazine. Then, she continued her creative exploration by becoming a Daily Painter and administrator of a Daily Painting website, Fresh Paint Daily Painters.

“The challenge of trying to paint a small, finished painting every day resulted in my use of deliberate strokes and quick observations,” shares Bruson. “Working both in my studio and outside en plein air, my experience as a graphic designer and Daily Painter carries through into my oil paintings with strong contrasts of lights and darks.”

Daniel Corey is the second artist opening this weekend at Maine Art Hill. Corey is not a stranger to the area and is excited to return to Kennebunk to celebrate his new work.

“I am a traditional painter rooted in the aesthetic values of the Ashcan school and the French impressionists,” shares Corey. “Inspired by light quality, color harmony, and abstract shapes, my paintings are created from direct observation and memory. I enjoy the challenge of painting nontraditional views, subjects, and the views that make Maine, Maine.”
