Glimmer (noun): tiny miraculous moments that require noticing, moments that enchant you, open your heart, and make you come alive.
Maine Coast II. 40x50 Oil on Canvas $9500
As collectors, clients, and common folk, we usually only see the final piece of an artist's work. It is stunning, and we are amazed at how such beauty comes from the stroke of a brush to the canvas. However, for the artist, it is all about the stages.
"I enjoy all stages of painting development," says Maine artist Margaret Gerding, "but there is something extraordinary about the beginning."
From finding the perfect spot to set up her easel to the initial sketch to the beginnings of color and contrast, Margaret Gerding seriously considers each stage as she works through the inspiration for the final piece.
"Finding time in nature to witness and observe, then communicating that experience through paint has been my path through life," explains Gerding. "Watching the big clouds that form by the coast, their subtle but sometimes bold colors. Finding that 'glimmer' in this beautiful area I call home."
Gerding's show will start on August 3 and run until August 26. The galleries are open daily at 10 a.m., and everyone is welcome.
