The new collection from Jill Matthews embodies the idea that an artist is an editor.
"What I mean by that is our world around us, nature, and our surroundings are just a complex collection of various shapes, colors, lines, and textures," says Matthews.

For Matthews, the job an artist has before them is to take all this information and translate it into their unique language,
"This is what my art is to me," she says. "It truly is a language. I want to speak this visual language and connect with the viewer impactfully."
When she is in the studio, she constantly works through the piece and essentially solves problems.

"My most successful sessions as a painter are when I experience these harmonious moments where there is this constant push and pull of what can stay and what can go, ultimately getting me to the result," explains Matthews. "Again, my work speaks this language unique to me as an artist and hopefully resonates with you all."
