Jill Matthews lives here in Kennebunkport and embraces the local landscapes by capturing them on canvas in a soft but dramatic depiction of her world. However, she took a break to "play" with abstracts for this show. Little did she know...
"I’m still playing around with abstracts. When I worked on abstracts in the past, I saw it as a brainbreak," Matthews laughs. "I have realized recently it is not."
Dappled Afternoon I, 12x12 $825
What used to be a brain break and an aside from the norm has turned into real work. Luckily for us, that real work results in a work of art.
"I have dabbled and integrated some abstract works in the past," Matthews explains, "but I have never thought harder than when I work in abstract today."
Dappled Afternoon II, 12x12 $825
"In my new abstracts, all design elements work intensely together," shares Matthews. "Each piece contains color interactions, textures, composition, design, and mood."
Each piece also contains beauty, love, and an eye for what could be.
Lisianthus I 12x12 $825
Jill's show will start on August 17 and run until September 11.. The galleries are open daily at 10 a.m., and everyone is welcome.
