Maine Art Hill is delighted to welcome a new artistic voice to its community: Lisa Stark. Visiting Maine for a couple of weeks this September into October, Lisa brings a fresh perspective inspired by the rugged beauty and ever-changing landscapes of the Maine coast.
Lisa shares, "I'm very attracted to the amazing rock formations you see along the Maine coast. It's a fun challenge to interpret the shapes and textures in my own style." This fascination with natural forms is at the heart of her work, where observation meets imagination.
Her artistic process begins on location. "My landscape process includes sketching on location and observation, then interpreting. I'm excited to spend time in Maine again, absorbing and sketching on site, and getting inspired by the change in seasons, colors, and textures." These on-site sketches are usually mixed media, capturing the details that most intrigue her and inviting deeper exploration in the studio.
Back in the studio, Lisa transforms these initial impressions into larger, more immersive works. "Larger studio pieces will often dive deeper into those elements, playing with variations that say 'Maine' to me!" The result is a body of work that conveys the essence of Maine's coast. It's rock formations, textures, and seasonal shifts through Lisa's distinctive artistic lens.
Hopefully, visitors to Maine Art Hill will have the opportunity to meet Lisa and experience her sketches and studio works firsthand. Be watching for her as she wanders the area to paint, sketch, and photgraph iconic scenes and quiet landscapes. Her time in Kennebunk promises to be an inspiring blend of observation, creation, and celebration of Maine’s natural beauty.
Whether you're a longtime admirer of Maine’s landscapes or discovering them through Lisa’s eyes for the first time, her work offers a unique and captivating perspective.
