Mark Holme

Mark Holme is a visionary animal sculptor who breathes life into twisting and bending wire, transforming it into dynamic representations of nature’s creatures. His expressive sculptures inhabit spaces and collections across the country.

A native New Englander, Mark earned his BFA in Visual Design from UMASS Dartmouth. He now lives in the quiet countryside of Massachusetts, where the natural world continues to fuel his artistic inspiration.
 

With over 30 years of experience in the visual arts, Mark is an award-winning designer and a signature member of the Society of Animal Artists. No matter how busy he is in the studio, he remains deeply connected to the outdoors - where he finds endless inspiration in the forms, movements, and spirit of wildlife.

"Wildlife and its environment have been the consistent theme in my work over the years. Over the past several years, I have been intrigued by the depiction of wildlife's motion and anatomy in wire sculpture. In my Wild Wire series, I use 16-gauge industrial wire and draw animals in 3D, sometimes using only one piece of wire," says Holme

"My goal is to use the wire to create elements that speak to the essence of a particular animal. I begin by breaking down the animal into its unique motion, key features, and the personality that represents it," shares Holme. "I enjoy telling a story in my pieces-whether it's a group of deer that got startled and bounded away or a cheetah in hot pursuit of its prey. The subject matter is endless in what is possible. By creating each piece, I learn something about the animal and how best to represent it in its form."
