"I sometimes try too hard to come up with a new idea and make something different," says Witbeck. "I bought 24x48 canvases with the idea of doing some long horizontal landscape paintings. After starting two of them, I lost interest, and they became two of the vertical trio of fisherman/lobsterman/clamdigger."
These three pieces are the only large verticals in the show and truly show off the larger-than-life aspects of Witbecks work.
Clamdigger 48 x 24 Oil $7800
Witbeck Clamdigger 48 x 24 Oil $7800
Lobsterman 48x24 Oil $7800
"I'm still playing with changing perspectives in some harbor scene paintings. That's most obvious in the Dingy Dock painting and Early Risers," says Witbeck, "where the viewer is looking down at the bottom of the painting, and the perspective changes as you scan upward until you look out to the horizon at the top of the painting."
Dinghy Dock 53x33 Oil $11800
Early Risers 53x33 Oil $11800
